How to Clean Your Composite Deck

With any home improvement or outdoor construction project, you want your new builds to remain nice-looking and like-new for as long as possible. While maintaining and cleaning a composite deck is fairly straightforward, there are some things to consider such as the tools needed and what type of cleaning supplies to use. Here’s a full breakdown from the team at LPB Construction Inc.

Tools Needed

You likely already have most of the tools necessary to get the job done right, but just so that you’re thorough, make sure you have the following ready:

  • Broom
  • Bucket
  • Dish Soap
  • Soft-bristled Brush
  • Hose

If you’re dealing with mold and mildew, you may also need:

  • Vinegar
  • Baking Soda

With all of your tools set out and ready, let’s get into the cleaning process.

The Process

Start out by sweeping your entire deck in order to remove any dirt, leaves, or other debris. Next up, rinse off the deck with your hose or even a pressure washer. If you do use a pressure washer, just be sure to use a low setting and spray the deck from at least 8 inches away to avoid causing any damage. After the deck is rinsed, apply your soapy water and scrub the deck with your soft-bristled brush. If your deck has mold or mildew, mix 2 parts vinegar to 1 part water and apply that solution to the problem areas. After that, sprinkle baking soda on those same areas and let it sit for 20 minutes and then scrub the areas with your brush. The last step is to simply rinse the deck clean.

If your deck is beyond a good scrubbing and could use a replacement, LPB Construction Inc. is located in Cleveland and serves the areas of Parma, North Royalton, Strongsville, Broadview Heights, Seven Hills, and beyond. Our services include deck building, pergola construction, and pavilion installation. You can contact us today over the phone at (440) 502-5078 to request a free estimate.
