Stamped Concrete

Can Stamped Concrete Handle Ohio’s Freeze-Thaw Cycles?

A November downpour can leave water sitting in low spots for days, and that water has nowhere good to go once a hard freeze arrives. In Cleveland, OH, we look at how runoff crosses the yard before digging begins. At LPB Construction Inc.we build stamped concrete patios with your chosen pattern and Northeast Ohio’s changing weather conditions in mind.  A well-draining base matters more than a pretty stamp when winter starts.

Can Our Patio Concrete Handle Ohio Freeze-Thaw Cycles?

When moisture trapped in or beneath concrete freezes, it expands. Repeated freezing and thawing can contribute to cracking, surface flaking, and shifting over time. Yes, we build decorative patio concrete with Ohio’s freeze-thaw swings in mind, starting with the layers below the finished concrete.
  • Base depth: We dig out enough material for a stable foundation beneath the finished patio.
  • Compaction: Aggregate is packed firmly so the concrete sits on solid, even support.
  • Control joints: Planned relief lines give the slab places to move as temperatures change.

Our Site Preparation Moves Water Away

Base and Water Control

After a spring storm, a patio shouldn’t send water toward the basement wall. Before the pour, we check the grade, trace runoff paths, and look at where the patio meets the home. We shape the area so water moves away from the foundation rather than collecting along it. For a larger exterior home improvement plan, we can tie the patio work into the other outdoor features you have in mind.
  1. Excavation: Unsuitable soil comes out, leaving room for the supporting layers below.
  2. Slope: Before pouring concrete, we establish a drainage slope that directs water away from the home and helps prevent pooling.

Our Sealing Process Protects the Finished Surface

Salt residue from a snowy February can be rough on decorative concrete. Winter wear is real. Once the patio has cured, we apply a protective sealer to help limit moisture penetration and damage from winter weather. The coating also helps the color hold its depth and makes seasonal cleanup easier. A patio still needs occasional care after a hard winter, and we can explain what to watch for as the weather changes.
  • Texture: The surface is stamped before it hardens to create the look you chose.
  • Finish: After curing, we apply a protective coat to the patio.
On a walk around your yard, LPB Construction Inc. can show you where water may collect and talk through the patio plan before work starts.
